Over the past 30 years, more than 800 organizations have sponsored Executive MBA students at Columbia Business School as a means of investing in — and retaining — their most valued employees and in the future of their firms.
Columbia Executive MBA students must be fully employed from the time of application through completion of the program.
Independent professionals or consultants and applicants who head their own firms are eligible, though these applicants will have to write their own sponsorship letters.
Friday/Saturday Option Time Sponsorship Requirement
Friday/Saturday students are required to submit written authorization from their employer stating permission to attend class on workdays and to complete the program. Sponsorship letters must be submitted as part of a student’s application.
Saturday-only students are not required to attain employer sponsorship of any kind, though it is welcome.

Tips for Securing Sponsorship from Your Employer
Do your homework: Talk to your HR department and ask about your company’s policy on continuing education. Find out whether anyone else in your firm has previously received company sponsorship. If so, you might be able to talk to the recipients or HR about how to proceed. Start the process early.
Frame the request in your terms that make clear the benefits to your employer: Let your employer know that the Columbia Executive MBA Program is not a cost but an investment that adds immediate value to your company. The strategic thinking, entrepreneurial training, and decision-making skills you gain — and apply immediately — will help give your company a competitive edge.
Create a proposal: Cost out the time and money needed. It may be helpful to include a comparison of the Columbia Executive MBA Program with other schools’ programs. If you are willing to make a commitment to your current firm, let the your manager know this up front; the company will be more apt to make an investment in you.
