Grades

The Business School grading system is as follows: H (Honors); HP (High Pass); P or P1 (Pass); LP (Low Pass); F (Failure).

P (Pass): Indicates a passing grade in a pass/fail course. Students are not permitted to take courses pass/fail, with the exception of B9002 Field Studies.

P1 (Pass): The P1 grade was created to distinguish between a P given for Pass/Fail courses within other divisions of the University and the P grade given in Business School classes.

LP (Low Pass): No more than three LP grades may be counted toward the degree.

F (Failure): A failed core course must be repeated; a failed elective must either be repeated or replaced by another. The grade is final and not subject to reexamination; it remains on the transcript with the new grade of the repeated course.

W (Withdrew from course): Students may officially withdraw from a course within two weeks after the end of the add/drop period. The course will remain on the transcript with a grade of W.

F* (Unofficial Drop): Students who have discontinued attendance but are still officially registered for a course may receive an F*. Any outstanding requirements must be resolved with the instructor by the end of the following term to avoid receiving a permanent grade of F.

IN (Incomplete): Those who have satisfactorily met course requirements, including the final exam, but have not completed certain assigned papers or reports (postponed for exceptional reasons satisfactory to the instructor), may receive an IN. If the required work is not completed by the end of the following term, whether the student is registered or not, the IN automatically converts to an F.

AB (Absent from the final examination): Students who cannot take the final examination due to illness or emergency may receive an AB from the instructor by requesting authorization from the Student Affairs Office. In such cases, students must notify the office prior to the scheduled exam and must subsequently present sufficient documentation for the absence. In the case of illness, medical certification is required. The AB may be removed by taking a makeup exam within one term following receipt of the AB; otherwise a failing grade is automatically recorded.
