Recognition Ceremony: Sunday, May 19, 2013

The 2013 Columbia Business School Recognition Ceremony will be held Sunday, May 19th at 11am. The ceremony will take place on the Columbia University Morningside Campus, on the South Lawns near Butler Library.

The Recognition Ceremony is a Business School-only ceremony.  This is an opportunity for all MBA students to be individually recognized for their achievement. Students are called on stage to shake hands with Dean Hubbard and receive an alumni pin.  Diplomas are not distributed during Recognition, but the following Wednesday after the University Commencement ceremony.  A distinguished keynote speaker, selected by the Alumni Committee, will provide remarks.  There will also be an address given by the class speaker as well as the Graduate Business Association President.

Guests with disabilities, limited mobility, or elderly requiring assistance, should enter at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Event Host staff will meet your party at this location to escort guests to the seating area. All other guests should enter campus through the gate at 116th Street and Broadway.

A professional photographer will be on stage to take photos of each student at several key points on the stage.  Students must wear academic regalia, available for purchase in the University Bookstore beginning after Spring Break.

Please note that the Recognition Ceremony will be held outside, under the cover of a tent. The ceremony will take place rain or shine.

Graduates are required to check- in prior to the ceremony in the Lerner Hall Auditorium.  Upon check in, students will receive a yellow card.  On one side of the yellow card, students must clearly write their name and its phonetic spelling.  On the other side of the card, students have the option of fill out their contact information.  It is important that students keep their yellow card on them at all times.  During the distribution of alumni pin students will be asked to walk up on stage and hand off their yellow card to the announcer. The announcer will read the student's name as written on the yellow card. The student will then walk to the center of the stage to shake Dean Hubbard's hand.  Don't forget to smile as the photographer takes a photo. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, the photographer will collect the cards from the announcer.  The contact information you provide is the only information they will have to send you proof of your photos.

Candidates for the class of 2013 will take part in a procession from Lerner Hall to the graduate seating tent on Butler Lawn.  Please note that during this time it may be difficult for your guests to move between the East and West lawns and the pathways will be restricted.

Please check back as the academic year progresses for more updates.
