RSS is a relatively new technology that can alert you when there is new content posted on your favorite Web sites. RSS is offered on most blogs and news sites including Public Offering and several other School sites listed below. Links to RSS feeds are usually identified by a small orange button that reads RSS or XML.
How to add a feed to your Firefox bookmarks
While in Firefox, find the RSS feed you want and click on the icon. You may be asked to name the feed or designate which bookmarks folder you wish to include it in.
Once you click “Add” the feed should show up in your toolbar (or in the bookmarks folder to which you added it). Note: If the RSS feed bookmark fails to load, as sometimes happens, simply add it again.
How to add a feed to your Outlook mail client
First, get the Web address of the feed by going to the Web page and clicking on the RSS icon. For example, Public Offering will take you to a page titled “Columbia Business School: Public Offering RSS Feed.” Copy this URL. (If you are using Firefox or another browser that automatically puts the feed in your bookmarks, you may have to get the feed URL using a different browser).
Once you have copied the URL, go to Outlook. Follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
- On the RSS Feeds tab, click New.
- In the New RSS Feed dialog box, type or press CTRL+V to paste the URL of the RSS Feed. For example, http://www.example.com/feed/main.xml.
- Click Add.
- Click OK.

How to add a feed to your RSS reader/aggregator
To do this you must first choose an RSS reader, often known as an RSS aggregator. There is a list of them here.
Once you choose a reader, download and install it and follow the appropriate directions on how to add a feed. These directions usually instruct you to copy the feed URL and paste it into a prompt in the feed reader.
How to add a feed to your Web portal
If you are already using a web portal daily, this may be a good choice for you. Each Web portal has a slightly different process, so check your portal’s help section for instructions.
