Informational Interviews
- Feedback from corporate representatives, students and faculty members indicates
that student visits to corporate offices are best kept to a minimum. Since
repeated student visits to firms are disruptive to both classes and the workplace,
we encourage companies to streamline the
informational-interview process and limit visits to each firm to one or two visits per student. - Please e-mail your companys informational-interview policy to your on-campus recruiting account manager so that the Career Management Center can provide clear directions to students about managing their schedules.
RSVPs
Companies should request student RSVPs for lunch presentations and evening
off-campus events. Companies may request RSVPs for evening on-campus presentations;
however, they may be difficult to manage and certain venues may have capacity
limits*. For catering purposes, it is wise to reduce RSVP numbers by 20-25percent.
* By assisting companies with RSVPs,
Columbia Business School and MBA Career
Services take no responsibility for
companies with University, federal,
state or city laws including those
involving venue capacity.
Pre-interview Dinners & Sell Days
Pre-interview dinners are generally not allowed. Exceptions may be made for companies outside the tri-state area. Please consult Natalie Rios or your account manager about your company's circumstances.
Sell Days should never conflict with academic commitments and are therefore best held on Fridays or Saturdays. Additionally, firms may not invite students to sell days or other post interview events until after offers are extended.
Sign-in Sheets
Students note that sign-in sheets at major events create delays in entering. Instead of sign-in sheets, we encourage your firm to provide students with a card to complete and drop off later during the event. This will speed students entry to the event and still allow interested students to receive follow-up information from your firm. Student clubs may develop their own rules about sign-in sheets at events they plan.
