Class of 2008 Breaks Record Contributing to Unrestricted Class Gift
The Class of 2008 broke former participation records with a 95 percent participation rate in student contributions to the annual class gift, which for the first time in School history was not earmarked for a specific project, but was instead an unrestricted donation to the Columbia Business Fund.
The high participation rate for this unconventional gift was achieved through a vigorous campaign themed "Make Your MARK," featuring a combination of student townhalls; cluster competitions; special events including a kickoff party and “last chance” party; and cluster representatives who reached out to students on a one-to-one level.
Outreach was supported by the Alumni Transition and Development Committee (ATDC), headed by Anish Monga ’08, which was created last year to ease the transition from student to alum status, select graduation speakers, oversee the yearbook, coordinate special events and manage contributions to the class gift fund. In January 2008, the ATDC hosted Alumni Forever Week, featuring industry-specific breakfasts, two large second-year student events, an alumni speaker event and other activities geared toward strengthening community awareness.
