Case Competition 2009, Columbia Business School’s first-ever case competition, concluded on April 7. The members of the winning team were Ahmad Bakri, Francesco Braggiotti, Erica Brailey, Micael Calatrava and Alexandre Domange.

A joint effort of the Dean’s Office, the Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business, the Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence and Columbia CaseWorks, Case Competition 2009 challenged teams of first-year students to apply concepts and theories to a global business opportunity.

This term’s case, “The Launch of the Indian Premier League,” follows Lalit Modi as he endeavors to build a domestic cricket league in India.

For its analysis of the real-world case, the winning team was awarded the grand prize of $2,400 by judges Dean Glenn Hubbard; Rajeev Kohli, professor of marketing and author of the case; Richard Zannino, executive in residence and former CEO of Dow Jones & Company; and Bita Javadizadeh ’99, managing director at J.P. Morgan.

The event was covered by NDTV, an Indian television station. Photos from the event can be viewed on the Columbia Business School Flickr group.

The next case competition, which will feature J-term students, will take place this summer.
