Developed and led by Professor E. Ralph Biggadike, a renowned authority on general management issues, Executive Development Program: Transition to General Management was conceived to help general managers face those challenges. Through lectures, interactive simulations and dynamic discussions, participants prepare for their new role and develop critical skills that will allow them to succeed. OverviewA general manager faces responsibilities that will challenge even the most talented and effective executive. The Executive Development Program shortens the learning curve for new general managers by developing the skills needed to achieve excellence as a cross-functional executive. During this program you will discuss the job of the General Manager, how GMs get work done, the different functions of business that report to the GM and business strategy. Most importantly, you will practice the skills of a GM, such as questioning, listening, integrating and communicating. You will have the opportunity to experiment with new approaches and to discuss your own professional challenges with your colleagues and faculty facilitators. You will learn how to maximize people and resources, develop a broader understanding of integration across functions and make accurate projections to enhance your organization's effectiveness and profitability. The two-week program is led by members of the Columbia Business School faculty, selected specifically for their talent in bridging the gap between theory and practice.
