Should We Be Worried About Japan?
CJEB presents a luncheon "zadankai" discussion with:
Edward Lincoln
Professorial Lecturer, George Washington University
Visiting Professor, Department of Economics, Columbia University
Moderated by
Hugh Patrick
R.D. Calkins Professor of International Business Emeritus; Director, Center on Japanese Economy and Business, Columbia Business School
Japan has faced a series of serious challenges over the past two decades: collapsing asset prices, a serious banking crisis, slow economic growth, deflation, and exploding levels of government debt. Now the population is falling and rapidly aging, creating a new set of economic problems. Should we worry that Japan will face a crisis like Greece? Or will Japanese society successfully confront these challenges?
Lunch will be served.
Advanced registration is required here.
