The Lang Fund Board Invests In Four Student Ventures

  • Entrepreneurship

On the morning of Thursday, May 7, six student finalists patiently waited for their turn to present their concepts to The Lang Fund Board of Directors.  The Board listened intently to each pitch, asking questions on the concept's scalability, business model and start up costs.

After debating the merits of each plan, the Board selected four out of six businesses to invest in. "The Board was quite engaged and the decisions were difficult to make. We were very impressed with this year's students and their presentations", said Board member Sabin Streeter ’67.  He added, "The group of young entrepreneurs were the best we have seen to date."

The Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center congratulates the Lang Fund Board's investment picks:

Environmentally Conscious Organization Inc. (e.c.o.): a design, licensing, manufacturing and subcontract management firm dedicated to the use of recycled materials and to the reduction or elimination of waste. Jennifer Wright ’09

Neighborhood Hero: a digital message board for community communication. Tom Bowen Wright ’09

Palogix USA: a solutions-orientated rental and logistics supplier of returnable, reusable pallets, containers and packaging. Robert Liebesman ‘09

PayPerks: a corporate communications tool that showcases employee perks.  Arlyn Davich ’09

The finalists were chosen from 39 ventures submitted by students, who presented their ideas at The Annual Spring Venture Showcase (formerly The Lang Fund Final Event) in April. A group of evaluators comprising over 60 mentors, faculty advisors, alumni, and administration heard business plan presentations and made recommendations to the Lang Fund Board regarding final funding decisions.

Profiles of each entrepreneur and their business will be posted on our website by the end of May.
