About The Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center
Building on a rich tradition of teaching and research in the field of entrepreneurship, Columbia Business School established The Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center [The Lang Center] in 1996 with a gift from Eugene M. Lang, MS ’40. A member of the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers, Mr. Lang is both a successful entrepreneur and a distinguished philanthropist.
About Eugene Lang
Eugene Lang received a BA from Swarthmore College in 1938 and an MS from Columbia Business School in 1940. He founded REFAC Technology Development Corporation in 1951.
Mr. Lang is the founder and chairman of the I Have a Dream Foundation, a nationwide program that provides academic support, intervention and college funding to disadvantaged children. The inspiration for the program began in 1981 after he promised college scholarships to the 61 members of the sixth-grade class at his alma mater in East Harlem upon their graduation from high school. The program is now in 27 states, 65 cities and serves well over 13,500 children; it continues to grow today.
In 1990, President George Bush designated Mr. Lang a Point of Light and later in 1996, President Bill Clinton awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
