Tips for Securing Sponsorship from Your Employer
-
Do your homework.
Talk to your HR department and find out your company’s policy on continuing education. Also ask whether anyone has previously received company sponsorship. If so, you might be able to talk to the recipients or HR about the process. Start the process early. -
Frame the request in your employer’s terms.
Let your employer know that the Columbia EMBA Program is not a cost but an investment that nets measurable results for the company. The material you learn is of value to your company; you will bring back knowledge of the most current research and practice in business and apply it on the company’s behalf. -
Create a proposal.
Cost out the time and money needed, comparing schools. If you are willing to make a commitment to your current firm, let the firm know this; the firm will be more apt to make an investment in you. -
Use this Web site as an asset.
The EMBA Program has created a section of this site devoted to information for sponsors. Show it to your company, and have your company contact us at (212) 854-4057 or e-mail us at finaid@gsb.columbia.edu about any questions and concerns.
