Getting Sponsorship

Over the past 30 years, more than 800 companies have sponsored EMBA students at Columbia as a means of investing in their most valued employees and in the future of their firms.

Sponsorship is viewed in two ways:

  • Time away from work to attend class
Applicants must submit written authorization from their employer stating permission to attend class on workdays and complete the program. (If you are an independent professional or consultant or the head of your own firm, you can write your own sponsor letter. )

Your company and coworkers who are affected by your time away from the office — class time as well as study time — must also take into account that you will need time to work on projects with team members.

  • Employment Requirement
There is an employment requirement for admission to Columbia Executive MBA programs, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis for recently unemployed applicants who are otherwise highly qualified. You should discuss your situation with a member of the admissions team as soon as possible.

  • Financial support (partial or full)
Many students obtain corporate financial sponsorship, which ranges from partial to full support, but financial sponsorship is not required. If your company is not sponsoring 100 percent of the cost of the EMBA Program, please address that as part of your application. You might include a letter from the person signing your application and a copy of the company’s tuition reimbursement program. If you are interested in financing options, please mention that to your interviewer or call the Financial Aid Office at (212) 854-4057.
