The PhD program focuses on training students in the design and execution of original research. The goal of the program is to develop intellectual leaders in their chosen fields of study. Decision, Risk, and Operations doctoral candidates work with computer-based planning models that can be used to support managerial decisions in a wide variety of areas. Typical applications are the design and operation of distribution and production systems, financial planning models, marketing media mix decisions, and the deployment of emergency services.
The program is administered through the Interdepartmental Committee on Operations Research, which consists of faculty from Columbia Business School, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
