Frank Gaoning Ning, Chairman, COFCO Corporation
Mr. Ning graduated from Shandong University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1983 and received an MBA from Pittsburgh University in 1985. He joined China Resources in Hong Kong in 1986 and rose to the role of vice chairman and president. At the end of 2004, he joined COFCO as chairman. Under his leadership, COFCO acquired two other giant SOEs: China Native Produces & Animal By-Products Import & Export Corporation, and China Grains and Oils Corporation. COFCO also took over and restructured Shenzhen Baoheng, BBCA, Xinjiang Tunhe and Cereal Way Instant Noodle; and took an ownership stake in Mengniu Milk. Besides the grain, oil and food business, COFCO is also developing urban complexes under the shopping mall brand Joy City, and developing residential real estate and hotel businesses. Mr. Ning advocates a corporate culture of “aiming high in personal conduct and professional achievement,” which lays a sound foundation for COFCO’s long-term development. For several years COFCO has been awarded Most Socially Responsible Business in China. Mr. Ning has been the recipient of many notable honors including: 25 Most Influential Business Leaders in China, Fortune Magazine (Chinese) in 2005 and 2006; 10 Business Leaders in China, People’s Daily, CE Weekly in 2009; and Asia Business Leader, CNBC in 2009, just to name a few.
