Teaching and research interest

David Ross is an Associate Professor at Columbia Business School. He holds a PhD in Economics from New York University's Stern School of Business and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Previously, he was an associate and vice president with Citigroup Investment Banking in New York and Seoul, Korea and an analyst with National Westminster Bank in New York and London. His research focuses on people and performance, that is, how to recruit, motivate, and organize employees for competitive success. Two points of emphasis are gender diversity and the management of financial institutions. Current research topics include the performance implications of female participation in top management, how the transition to fatherhood influences how much a male chief executive officer pays his employees, and how banks evaluate executive compensation packages in making lending decisions. His work has been published in leading academic journals like the Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, the Review of Financial Studies, and the Strategic Management Journal and has been profiled in media such as Forbes, The McKinsey Quarterly, NBC Nightly News, and The Wall Street Journal.
