Teaching and research interest

David Ross is an Associate Professor at Columbia Business School. He holds a PhD in Economics from New York University's Stern School of Business and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Previously, he was an associate and vice president with Citigroup Investment Banking in New York and Seoul, Korea and an analyst with National Westminster Bank in New York and London. His research focuses on strategy implementation, that is, what a firm's internal processes and structure should be to most effectively decide upon and then execute the firm's plan of action. Two points of emphasis are gender diversity in management and motivating good strategic decision making. He uses both mathematical models and empirical methods in his research and takes a particular interest in the management of financial institutions. His work has been published in leading academic journals like the Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, the Review of Financial Studies, and the Strategic Management Journal and has been profiled in media such as Forbes, The McKinsey Quarterly, NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
