Ryan Murphy received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2004. His research focuses on interactive decision making as well as decision making under risk and uncertainty. Specifically he studies the dynamics of trust based cooperation among interdependent decision makers. This work examines various mechanisms that stave off the unraveling of trust. In another line of work, he studies how decision makers adapt and make tradeoffs when searching sequentially among alternatives in a risky and dynamic environment. Ryan is currently the associate director of the Center for the Decision Sciences, an interdisciplinary research center affiliated with Columbia's Business School, Psychology Department, and the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy.
