Professor Farrokhnia's entrepreneurial and multi-disciplinary academic and professional career encompasses innovation-driven principal investments, M&A, operations management, and turnaround/restructuring of established and start-up ventures, with an emphasis on financial services, technology, and media. His academic and teaching endeavors focus on the successful integration of deep industrial, operational, and business analyses with practical development and execution of inventive, design-centric growth solutions.
A recipient of the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence (2013), Prof. Farrokhnia currently leads the Ventures division of StoneCastle Partners, a $5 billion asset management and finance firm, where he is responsible for deal origination, investment, and execution of various startup and growth ventures in banking, technology, and financial services. He previously served as the Managing Principal of an international private equity fund, the CFO of a financial technology company acquired by NYSE Group, and the co-Founding- and Managing Partner of an emerging-markets' focused principal investments fund.
Prof. Farrokhnia attended Columbia University in the City of New York for both his Bachelor and MBA studies. In addition to his program at the Business School, he is also very active in various teaching, leadership, and entrepreneurial student-centric efforts across Columbia University, including School of Journalism (Fall Seminar and Board Membership at the Knight-Bagehot Program) and School of Engineering (IEOR/CS project-based course). He has an extensive global professional experience, including long-term residency abroad and fluency in several languages.
