SONA System

Researchers who have contacted the lab coordinator may use the SONA study system for managing their lab and Web-based research studies. Log in to the study system here.

Information on the Study System

  • The Behavioral Research Lab has licensed a Web-based system for exhibiting and allowing participants to sign up for experiments. You can post descriptions of your experiments online and schedule exact times and the number of participants allowed at each time. There is also functionality for posting and recruiting participants for Web-based studies.
  • To use the system as an experimenter, e-mail the lab coordinator. Participants can sign up with a Columbia e-mail ID, and their login password will be emailed to them promptly.
  • You should enter your studies into the system, using specific experiment names. Please also remember to post your IRB approval note to the bottom of your long experiment description.
  • You need to reserve lab time using the Web calendar, and then make your experiment available to participants for discrete times using the study system.
  • Once participants have completed your study, you need to record that they have participated. To do this, you will need their study system login (which should be their Columbia e-mail ID — the “abc123” part of “abc123@columbia.edu”) or their Study System ID (a random number generated by the system). You should keep these ID ’s separate from any data you collect.
  • If you have a specific question about the study system itself, you may download documentation for participants, instructors, and administrators (the last includes information about pre-tests).
